THE ULTIMATE LIST
Luxury rehab seems like a lofty idea that only a rare few can afford. However, that notion is often a misconception, as there are true benefits to luxury rehab. Learn why luxury rehab is worth it in certain instances, and how to know if it’s the right option for you.
Addiction is a costly disease. Not only does it cost you your health, but it can also burn a hole in your finances that it’s easy to think that you should find the most affordable treatment possible. While affordable sounds good, sometimes, the quality of addiction treatment also suffers. When weighing options, one of the best measures for determining if rehab is a good idea is to look at the value it provides. It is not just about finding the cheapest services out there, but rather the best quality you can search for under the price you can afford. This is the principle behind choosing luxury rehab. Now, let’s head over to some pointers you should remember when choosing between a luxury or typical rehab. Is Luxury Rehab Worth It? The Features That Sets It Apart The quality of accommodations is above par. When you go for substance abuse treatment, you may think that it’s like going to a regular hospital. You have no choice but to eat stale food, sleep in a drab-looking ward, and feel uncomfortable throughout the process. This is simply not true for luxury rehab--in fact, you’ll experience the opposite! Think of luxury rehab as like going to a 5-star hotel. The accommodations are there not just to cater to your health, but also to your well-being. The treatment options are varied. Luxury rehab is not just about excellent accommodations, but also the quality of treatment offerings it provides. Sure, there are centers that offer the typical 12-Step Treatment, psychotherapies, and group therapy approaches. However, luxury rehab is set apart as it can also have different types of wellness treatments, such as:
As you’ll notice above, the treatment options go above basic--they offer holistic treatments that can help patients achieve addiction recovery and overall wellness. The facilities are top-notch. Contributing to the whole luxury experience is the facilities that a high-quality rehab provides. From the moment you enter a luxury rehab’s premises, you will immediately sense a difference in the type of facilities they have. Many luxury rehabs have pools, gyms, and is set in a wonderful natural location that aims to promote peace and tranquility. Addiction treatment doesn’t have to feel like a burden when it comes to luxury rehab. You can have the opportunity to also enjoy yourself while feeling comfortable in this life-changing experience. Below are some questions you can answer, to know if luxury rehab is a good fit for you. Is Luxury Rehab The Right Fit For Me? Things To Consider Do I need a quality environment to thrive? Some people can work with a bare minimum, like simple accommodations and food. Others would associate these as negative experiences, which distracts them from the real goal of addiction treatment. If you believe that you’re the type of person who thrives on having a quality environment and facilities to fulfill your goal, then luxury rehab may be the best option for you. Will my insurance cover luxury rehab costs? Another question to consider is the rehab allowance that your insurance provider covers. Some insurance providers will have a certain financial allocation set for addiction treatment depending on your premiums. Others will simply cover any type of addiction treatment as long as they are considered the rehab center a partner facility. The logical thing to do is to verify your insurance with the rehab of your choice. This will help you prepare the necessary documentation as well as find other sources of financial support when insurance won’t cover the whole cost. Do I prefer a low provider-to-client ratio? Low ratios in any kind of healthcare treatment setting are usually synonymous with quality care. This is because healthcare providers can pay attention more to client needs and they are able to meet their day-to-day demands with fewer clients in their roster. This is what luxury rehab centers offer. Many of them offer 1:1 type of care, such that the addiction specialists can focus on providing personalized care to their current patient. If this idea sounds better to you than high-ratio rehabs, then luxury treatment may be a better choice. When Luxury Is Quality: Investing In Your Health & Luxury may sound ‘unnecessary’ in some contexts, but it can be vital when it comes to addiction treatment. Sometimes, it can even draw a line between effective addiction rehab and a mere stint that just ends up in a relapse. Think of it this way--the more you invest in your health, the closer you are to being addiction-free. Website owner notes: A shout out to Charles Watson, for another great article. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us have been facing fear, uncertainty, and measures such as social distancing and stay-at-home orders. People have been experiencing isolation and emotional distress, and some people are coping by hitting the bottle.
Alcohol beverage sales rose 55% from March 14, 2020 to March 21, 2020, reported the Nielsen market research firm. It added that liquor sales were 75% higher than the same period in 2019. Purchases of wine and beer also increased during that period. Why is alcohol dangerous? Clearly, U.S. residents have been buying more alcohol during the pandemic. If they’re consuming all of this alcohol, it could produce a number of negative effects. To handle their stress over the virus, stay-at-home measures, and other developments, people might start to use alcohol as a coping mechanism. They might drink so often and so much that they become tolerant to alcohol’s effects. They might use more and more of the substance and have to seek help at a rehab for alcoholism or require other assistance. Alcohol isn’t the best coping mechanism because it’s a depressant. If people are depressed and drink alcohol, they could become even more depressed. They may turn to drinking as a way to cope with this depression, but in doing so, they may further fuel their depression. As this cycle continues, it becomes increasingly dangerous to a person’s physical and mental health. What are some healthy ways to improve our mental health? While the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic can threaten our mental health, so can drinking excessive amounts of alcohol. Healthier ways to cope include:
Yes, we’re living in unusual times, but we don’t have to let the oddity get us down. By avoiding alcohol and turning to healthier ways to fight stress, we’re better able to face this strange new world and whatever our new normal may turn out to be. While some people with alcohol use disorders do in fact have noses that look like that, not all do. Alcohol addiction and its effects are actually quite complex.
What Is Rhinophyma? Rhinophyma is the medical term for a red, swollen nose. People with rhinophyma have an advanced form of a skin condition known as rosacea. This advanced form of rosacea produces noncancerous tumors and oil glands on the nose. More women than men have rosacea, but more men have rhinophyma, a condition that is most common in fair-skinned men with European backgrounds who are fifty to seventy years old. Is it common in people who abuse alcohol? It depends on who you ask. Does Alcohol Addiction Cause Swollen Noses? Some heavy drinkers do in fact have rhinophyma, which has led to nicknames for the condition that include drinkers nose, alcoholic nose, bulbous nose, rum nose, brandy nose, and other terms. Comedian and actor W. C. Fields, for example, was known for his bulbous nose and his love of drink, which may have reinforced the connection between the two. Researchers are divided about whether alcohol abuse causes rhinophyma and whether the two are linked. A study published in 2019 claimed that it provided “arguments to support the age-old supposition of a link between alcohol and rhinophyma and suggests … a possible causal role.” Other studies say that alcohol can make the effects of rhinophyma worse for people who already have rosacea. Drinking alcohol can produce flushing (reddening of the skin) and cause the blood vessels to open. Scientists believe that genetic factors are more likely to cause rhinophyma than drinking alcohol, but alcohol may contribute to the condition. Can People Prevent and Treat Rhinophyma? Scientists believe that genetic factors as well as age and exposure to ultraviolet (UV light) may contribute to rosacea and rhinophyma. “They also found correlations with [rosacea and] body mass index (BMI), smoking, alcohol consumption, cardiovascular issues and skin cancer,” according to the National Rosacea Society. People may be unable to affect their genetic disposition for developing the conditions. But they may be able to influence environmental factors to prevent the conditions or stop them from becoming worse. Some of these preventative tactics include:
Just as there isn’t one contributing factor to rosacea and rhinophyma, there isn’t one way to treat rhinophyma and rosacea. Treatments for rhinophyma include:
Regardless of why people have rhinophyma or how they treat it, rhinophyma is a complex condition. Researchers don’t exactly know what causes it, so assuming that people with rhinophyma also abuse alcohol is wrong. It’s also dangerous, because such assumptions may stigmatize people. But, rhinophyma is a medical condition. So is alcohol addiction. Thank you Charles for the article. While the VA may take criticism, stories like this have to put a smile on your face.
